Peri S. Pfenniger, Napa Valley
Peri specializes in commissioned “Trompe L'oeil” murals. She combines painted architectural illusions with imaginary and dreamlike vistas. “Trompe l'oeil” means “fool the eye” and her paintings entice you to enter another place and time.
Peri grew up in Queens, New York which was exciting culturally, but she was not in touch with nature. “Magazine photos of nature were like dreams to me, images on a page, not real places.” Her life changed dramatically when she discovered the natural world, and nature has greatly influenced her life and her art even today.
Peri now lives in Napa Valley where the love for wall art and frescoes has truly thrived. “Napa Valley gives me nature and access to the Bay Area art scene,” she said.
In her business, she has completed many private commissioned paintings on canvas, murals and interior works of art on walls. Locally, her public murals may be seen at Le Petit Logis in Yountville where she completed five fresco murals. She created wall paintings at Pere Jeanty in Yountville, and paintings on canvas at Candlelight Inn in Napa.
Peri has recently completed a new series of modern, abstract paintings on canvas and paper. You can view Peri’s work on her website: www.peripfenninger.com and she may be reached directly at 415-302-6679.
Peri collaborates with interior designers, architects, builders, and homeowners to design original concepts that bring harmony, color, and a customized vision to an interior space. Her work is for private residences and public places. She paints architectural columns, arches, doorways, and stone walls in high realism, yet the vistas unfold into fantasy and abstraction. “The concrete reality and the world of the imagination, to me, represent the conscious and unconscious worlds,” she states.
As a fine artist, Peri has participated in Napa Valley Open Studios and Burning Man Festivals through the years. She has had numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout California. In 2005, Peri was a featured artist in the Napa Valley Symphony League, Art Strings event.
Although Peri is a well know artist the business side of her business was lacking. Peri took a Business Side of Art class from Business Advisor Carolynne Gamble. Carolynne is a Business Advisor and Artist by her own right and relates well with many of our local artisans. Carolynne encouraged Peri to develop structure in her business by developing a business plan and setting up.
Peri later registered and completed the NxleveL 10-week program where she worked with Carolynne Gamble, Sandy Stelter, Jerry Jinnett and Director Beth Pratt. She completed her business plan. After the completion of the class Peri's sales began to grow. Her sales increased by 300% in the first 4 months of 2008.
"I am grateful to all of the staff at SBDC, especially Sandy Stelter, a very knowledgeable NxLeveL Instructor, Jerry Jinnett for her expertise in marketing and Carolynne Gamble, my personal counselor who specializes in art marketing," said Peri.
